The Mosaic Learning Center (MLC) provides support for families in our community through mentoring and tutoring elementary school-age children. MLC also provides workshops and seminars to sharpen life skills to enhance effective parenting, so that families can be strengthened to give their children an environment conducive for future success. Drawing upon our own experience and education, as well as community expertise, MLC partners with parents to equip them and their children with skills necessary to live confident and successful lives, lives that will make a difference tomorrow.
A major need in our community is curbing high school drop out rates. MLC takes a two-prong approach to dropout prevention.
First, MLC addresses the unique needs and concerns of our students. These needs may include:
•Development of good study habits and skills;
•Alternative explanations of academic concepts that are difficult for the students to comprehend;
•Individualized attention that builds confidence and reduces anxiety; and
•Methods to deal with distractions that may interfere with effective learning.
Second, MLC provides life skill workshops designed to motivate and equip parents to become more effective in building positive learning environments for their children. These workshops will be lead by experienced professionals in the field.
