English
Based on guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), MLC breaks the study of English into several components:
- Reading
- Writing
- Research
- Listening and Speaking
- Oral and Written Conventions
Students are tested at the beginning of the school year to identify problem areas and academic weaknesses. Class work is adjusted for each student to help students increase understanding, grasp specific concepts, and improve performance.
Students are quizzed frequently to encourage their active participation in class, to assess their actual progress, and provide incentives for learning. Improvements are rewarded by periodic recognition, in class, of individual and group achievements.
MLC’s goal is to enable each student to show sufficient improvement in grammar, reading comprehension, spelling, and spoken language, that all MLC students meet or exceed knowledge standards set by TEA.
Math

- Sorting
- Reasoning and problem solving
- Computational accuracy
- Math processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Recognizing, understanding, and using measurements, comparisons, sequences, probabilities, and statistics
